Ingredients

The ingredients are:
  • 1 cup butter (2 sticks)
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 3/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 can (12 ounce) evaporated milk
  • 3/4 cup whole milk
  • 6 egg yolks
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 box (11 ounces) vanilla wafers cookies (Nilla Wafers, you may not use all of them, just as needed)
  • 3 bananas, sliced
  • Whipped Cream, to serve

How to Make

  • Step 1: In a large double boiler melt the butter over med-low heat. Add the sugar, salt, flour, evaporated milk and regular milk. Stir with a whisk. Add the egg yolks to the mixture, constantly stirring until thick. (Note–it took me quite a while to thicken.) Add the vanilla extract. Cool slightly.

  • Step 2: Lay the the wafers into the bottom of a 9x13 pan pan, then place the banana slices on top of the wafers. Pour in slightly cooled mixture. Place more wafers around the outside of pan for decoration.

  • Step 3: Chill completely. Serve with sweetened whipped cream.
