Step 1: In a large double boiler melt the butter over med-low heat. Add the sugar, salt, flour, evaporated milk and regular milk. Stir with a whisk. Add the egg yolks to the mixture, constantly stirring until thick. (Note–it took me quite a while to thicken.) Add the vanilla extract. Cool slightly.
Step 2: Lay the the wafers into the bottom of a 9x13 pan pan, then place the banana slices on top of the wafers. Pour in slightly cooled mixture. Place more wafers around the outside of pan for decoration.
Step 3: Chill completely. Serve with sweetened whipped cream.
