We recommend you get your ingredients ready before you start cooking. Once you're ready, here are the steps to making this delicious recipe

How to Make

  • Step 1: Combine flour, salt, eggs, vanilla, milk and cold water in a bowl, beat until smooth.

  • Step 2: Peel, core and thinly slice apples.

  • Step 3: Add the apples and sugar to the batter, you can use less sugar if your apples are sweet.

  • Step 4: Put the batter in the refrigerator at least 1/2 hour.

  • Step 5: You can leave the batter overnight cover tightly in the refrigerator.

  • Step 6: If the batter is to thick add cold water to thin the batter out.

  • Step 7: Heat oven to 450F degrees.

  • Step 8: Place 1-2 tablespoons butter in a 9-inch deep pie plate or a cast iron pan.

  • Step 9: Place the pie plate/an in the oven for 5 minutes until very hot. (You can put it in while it's still preheating.)

  • Step 10: Leaving the pan in the oven, carefully pull out the rack and pour the batter over the hot butter in the pan.

  • Step 11: Push back the shelf, close oven door as soon as possible.

  • Step 12: Bake for 30 to 40 minutes or until golden brown.

  • Variations: Use sliced peaches (drain well or substitute the water for the juice) or whole or halved cherries. For peaches or cherries, substitute almond extract for the vanilla. Any other fruits/extracts can be attempted- feel free to experiment! You can get away with quite a bit a fruit in this... minimum of two cups
