Ingredients

The ingredients are:
  • FOR THE SAUCE
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil
  • 2 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 1/4 teaspoons ground ginger
  • 1 teaspoon chili paste (or 1 teaspoon sweet chili sauce)
  • Red pepper flakes (1 pinch)
  • 1/2 cup chicken stock
  • 3/4 cup soy sauce (low sodium)
  • 1/3 cup honey
  • 3 tablespoons rice wine vinegar
  • 1/3 cup packed brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons cornstarch
  • 2 tablespoons water (cold)
  • FOR THE DISH
  • Oil
  • Salt and pepper
  • 1/2 to 3/4 pound beef sirloin (sliced thin, or any tender cut steak will do)
  • 1 pound broccoli head (cut in florets then lightly steamed in the microwave)
We recommend you get your ingredients ready before you start cooking. Once you're ready, here are the steps to making this delicious recipe

How to Make

  • FOR THE SAUCE

  • Step 1: In a saucepan over medium heat, heat the sesame oil. Add in garlic; sate 1-2 minutes (be careful not to burn it). Add in all of the remaining 8 ingredients except the cornstarch and water. Heat until boiling, the reduce heat and boil 1 few minutes. In a small dish, whisk together the cornstarch and water and slowly, while whisking the simmering sauce, pour in the cornstarch. Continue to whisk and bring back to a boil. Turn down to a simmer and allow to cook for 5-8 minutes.

  • TO COOK BEEF AND TO FINISH

  • Step 2: Meanwhile, heat a wok or skillet over medium high heat. Season the meat with salt and pepper. Add a drizzle of oil and add the meat, making sure not to crowd the pan. Cook the meat for about a minute or two or until almost completely cooked. (Overcooking the meat or cooking until well done in the pan will result in dry and chewy meat with less flavor). Place on a plate and tent with foil while the sauce finishes.

  • Step 3: Add the beef and sauce together, tossing to coat, as well as the broccoli if you wish, or just add the broccoli to the bowl.
