Step 1: In a sauce pan, heat olive oil over medium high heat. Add onions and saute until translucent (5 minutes). Add garlic and stir well for 30 seconds.
Step 2: Add tomatoes with liquid and sugar to pot and bring to a boil. Simmer until the sauce has thickened slightly, stirring occasionally (20 minutes).
Step 3: Stir in the basil. Toss with the cooked pasta and serve immediately.
