  • 1 yellow onion (small onion, peeled and minced)
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1 pound ground pork
  • 1 pound lean ground beef
  • 3/4 cup bread crumbs (dry)
  • 1 large egg, beaten
  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour (or as needed for rolling meatballs to coat)
  • 3 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 12 ounces beer (any-not too dark, though)
  • 2 tablespoons lemon juice

How to Make

  • Step 1: Brown onion in butter, salt, pepper and nutmeg.

  • Step 2: Mix pork, beef and dry bread crumbs. Add onions. Add the egg; mix well, and form into small balls. Roll them in a small amount of flour.

  • Step 3: Brown the meat balls in the 3 tablespoons of butter. When well browned, add beer and lemon juice.

  • Step 4: Cover and let simmer 30 minutes.
