Step 1: In a large saucepan, saute onion in butter until tender.
Step 2: Add in garlic, basil, paprika and cayenne; cook for 2 minutes.
Step 3: Stir in tomatoes with juice, tomato soup and milk, salt and pepper; bring to a boil.
Step 4: Reduce heat; cover and simmer for 20 minutes (add in a small amount of sugar if desired).
Step 5: Stir in cream cheese until melted.
Step 6: Ladle in bowls then sprinkle with croutons.
