Ingredients

The ingredients are:
  • 1 yellow onion (chopped)
  • 1 cup chopped celery
  • 2 carrots, diced
  • 2 tablespoons oil
  • 1/2 cup barley (150 grams)
  • 1 bay leaf
  • 2 1/2 ounces ham (1/2 cup cubed, smoked ham)
  • 4 ounces bacon (4 slices smoked bacon, chopped)
  • 1 pound dried lima beans (2 cups dried)
  • 6 cups chicken broth
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon white pepper
  • FOR TOPPING
  • 1/2 cup cream
  • 1 egg yolk
  • 1 tablespoon minced parsley
  • 1 tablespoon minced chives

How to Make

  • Step 1: Soaking beans and barley for 4-6 hours.

  • Step 2: Onions, celery and carrots are cut and fried in fat.

  • Step 3: Add bacon and ham and fry for another 5 minutes.

  • Step 4: Add the beans and bulgur and pour the chicken broth and bay leaf. Boil until beans are cooked, you may need to add more water.

  • Step 5: At the end, add salt and pepper to taste.

  • Step 6: Soup is finished with cream and liquid yolk that has been tempered.

  • Step 7: Add the parsley, and chives, then mix.
