Ingredients

The ingredients are:
  • 1 pound ground beef (round)
  • 2/3 cup chopped yellow onion (finely chopped)
  • 1/3 cup dry instant rice
  • 1/4 teaspoon pepper
  • 1/8 teaspoon salt
  • 1 large egg white
  • 8 ounces fresh sliced mushrooms (about 1 1/4 cups)
  • 2 cans (10 1/2 ounce) beef consomme
  • 1 1/2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
  • 2 tablespoons water
  • 1 1/2 tablespoons cornstarch

How to Make

  • Step 1: Combine ground round, onion, rice, pepper, salt, and egg white in a bowl; stir well.

  • Step 2: Divide mixture into 4 equal portions, shaping each into a 1/2-inch-thick patty.

  • Step 3: Coat a large nonstick skillet with cooking spray; place over medium-high heat until hot.

  • Step 4: Add patties, and cook 5 minutes on each side or until browned.

  • Step 5: Remove patties from skillet; set aside, and keep warm.

  • Step 6: Re-coat skillet with cooking spray.

  • Step 7: Add mushrooms; saute' over medium-high heat 3 minutes.

  • Step 8: Add consomme and Worcestershire sauce; cook 10 minutes.

  • Step 9: Return patties to skillet.

  • Step 10: Cover; reduce heat; and simmer 15 minutes.

  • Step 11: Remove patties from skillet; set aside, and keep warm.

  • Step 12: Combine water and cornstarch; stir well.

  • Step 13: Stir cornstarch mixture into broth mixture in skillet; bring to a boil, and cook 1 minute or until thick, stirring constantly.

  • Step 14: Spoon gravy over patties.
