Ingredients

The ingredients are:
  • 2 cups brewed coffee (hot, I used 1 3/4 cup + 1/4 cup vodka; the vodka is optional)
  • 2/3 cup cocoa powder
  • 3 ounces semisweet chocolate (finely chopped, I used a mix of semi and dark)
  • 2/3 cup granulated sugar (white)
  • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
  • Garnish
  • Whipped cream
  • Chocolate shavings
We recommend you get your ingredients ready before you start cooking. Once you're ready, here are the steps to making this delicious recipe

How to Make

  • Step 1: Granita Mix ... Add all the ingredients to a glass 13x9 pan; and, mix well until the chocolate and sugar is melted, dissolved; and, combined. This will take a good 5 minutes - don't rush it. Just keep stirring.

  • Step 2: Freezing ... Freeze for at least 5 hours; it is best all day. IMPORTANT - Make sure to use a fork; and, scrape the dish/granita every hour. This creates the ice crystals; which make the granita. My freezer took about 6-7 hours; but, my freezer is also very full.

  • Step 3: Serving ... Before serving, scrape once again, breaking it up so it resembles a frozen ice, or a 'slushy.' I serve mine in a martini glass, with a little dollop of whipped topping and chocolate shavings. You can also drizzle a little chocolate sauce over the top.

  • Step 4: It's really delicious, full of flavor; but for a dessert - it is still pretty light. ENJOY!
