The ingredients are:
  • 1/2 cup orange juice,
  • 1/4 cup buttermilk
  • 1 large egg
  • 1/2 teaspoon almond extract
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 4 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 8 tablespoons butter
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup almonds (finely chopped)
  • 1 tablespoon grated orange peel

How to Make

  • Step 1: Preheat oven to 375 degrees.

  • Step 2: Mix together liquids with egg and extract, beat well with a fork.

  • Step 3: In food processor.

  • Step 4: Add sugar, almonds and orange peel.

  • Step 5: Add flour, baking powder and soda, and salt.

  • Step 6: Add butter until fine granules form. Stir in.

  • Step 7: Add egg mixture and stir with a fork until a soft dough forms, add a little extra milk if needed.

  • Step 8: Turn out onto a board and give 5-6 kneads.

  • Step 9: Divide dough in half and pat into circles on an ungreased cookie sheet; cut each circle into 6-8 wedges, depending what size scone you want.

  • Step 10: For crisper scones separate wedges on the sheet.

  • Step 11: Bake about 25 minutes or until medium brown.
