  • 1 1/4 pounds apples (3 large tart, such as granny smith)
  • 1 cup maple syrup, divided
  • 1 large egg, beaten
  • 1 tablespoon unsalted butter (melted)
  • 2 teaspoon lemon juice
  • 1/2 cup all purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • Salt, 1 pinch
  • 1/2 cup raisins
  • Unsweetened whipped cream, optional

How to Make

  • Step 1: Preheat oven to 375F. Grease or spray an 8-inch square baking dish.

  • Step 2: Peel and core apples. Cut into even chunks.

  • Step 3: Arrange apples in the prepared baking pan. Pour 1/2 cup of the maple syrup over apples, stirring to coat well, and spread in an even layer.

  • Step 4: In a bowl, combine beaten egg, butter and lemon juice with remaining 1/2 cup maple syrup.

  • Step 5: In another bowl, combine flour, baking powder and salt. Stir the dry ingredients into the egg mixture. Fold in raisins.

  • Step 6: Pour batter evenly over apple pieces.

  • Step 7: Bake for 30 to 35 minutes or until top is lightly browned.

  • Step 8: Serve warm with unsweetened whipped cream, if desired.
