Ingredients

The ingredients are:
  • 60 grams butter (or 60g margarine)
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon bicarbonate of soda
  • 1 teaspoon water (hot)
  • 3/4 cup applesauce (puree)
  • 1 cup self-rising flour (wholemeal)
  • 1/4 cup chopped walnuts
  • 1/4 cup chopped pitted dates
  • 2 teaspoons slivered almonds

How to Make

  • Step 1: Set oven at 180dg c .

  • Step 2: Grease and line a 200mm bar tin.

  • Step 3: Cream butter and sugar until light and fluffy.

  • Step 4: Mix bi-carb and water. Stir bi-carb mixture into all other ingredients (except almonds)and mix well.

  • Step 5: Place in pan and sprinkle with the slivered almonds.

  • Step 6: Bake for 45 minutes or until a skewer comes out clean.

  • Step 7: Cool on rack and cut into bars.

  • Step 8: Serve warm with whipped cream or cold.
