Ingredients

The ingredients are:
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 yellow onion, diced
  • 3 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 can (14.5 ounce) diced tomatoes, undrained (Italian-style)
  • 2 tablespoons tomato paste
  • 1 tablespoon dried basil leaves
  • 1 teaspoon white sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoons salt
  • Pepper
  • 1/3 to 1/2 cup heavy whipping cream
  • 1 tablespoon butter
  • Cooked paste, of your choice

How to Make

  • Step 1: In a saucepan, saute onion in olive oil over medium heat, 3 minutes. Add garlic, saute 1 minute (make sure it doesn't burn!).

  • Step 2: Add in tomato paste, basil, sugar, oregano and salt; cook 2 minutes. Season with pepper.

  • Step 3: Add in tomatoes (with juice) bring to boil and simmer uncovered for about 15-20 minutes or until some of the liquid has evaporated. Remove from heat; stir in whipping cream and butter. Reduce heat and simmer 5 more minutes. Add more salt if needed.

  • Step 4: Serve with cooked pasta.
