  • FROSTING
  • 6 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 6 tablespoons cream
  • 4 tablespoons butter
  • 1/2 cup shredded coconut
  • 1/2 cup chopped walnuts
  • CAKE
  • 1 cup water (boiling)
  • 1 cup chopped dates
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/4 cup butter
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt

How to Make

  • Step 1: Preheat oven to 350 degrees.

  • Step 2: Grease and flour a 9 x 13 inch pan.

  • Step 3: Pour one cup of boiling water over one cup of chopped dates and one tsp. baking soda.

  • Step 4: Let stand while the following are mixed.

  • Step 5: Beat 1/4 cup (1/2 stick) butter and one cup sugar until smooth.

  • Step 6: Add two eggs, one at a time. Add 1 tsp. vanilla.

  • Step 7: Mix 1 1/2 cups all purpose flour with one tsp. baking powder and 1/2 tsp. salt and add to butter-sugar mixture. Blend until just combined.

  • Step 8: Mix in nut and dates including the date water.

  • Step 9: Pour in pan and bake for 25 minutes

  • FOR THE FROSTING

  • Step 10: Boil the sugar, cream and butter together for 3 minutes. Mix in nuts and coconut. Spread on cake
