  • 1 cup milk (warm)
  • 2 teaspoons yeast
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon granulated sugar
  • 10 cups all-purpose flour
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1/4 cup butter
  • 1/2 cup sour cream
  • 2 teaspoons salt
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 3 1/2 cups milk
  • Egg (beaten)

How to Make

  • Step 1: Make a sponge dough from the 1 cup warm milk, 2 teaspoons dry yeast, 1 cup flour and 1 teaspoon sugar.

  • Step 2: Work together with hands and let rise.

  • Step 3: Mix in other ingredients and work until dough separates from hands and board.

  • Step 4: Let dough rise again until double its size.

  • Step 5: Place in two greased pans; brush top with beaten egg.

  • Step 6: Place in a 350 degree Fahrenheit oven for 1 hour and 15 minutes.

  • Step 7: After removing from oven, cover with damp towel and dry towel until cool. This will make a soft crust.

  • Step 8: Makes 2 pans.
