Ingredients

The ingredients are:
  • Shortcake Or Cream Scone:
  • 2 cups flour
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/8 teaspoon salt
  • 1/3 cup unsalted cold butter
  • 1 large egg (slightly beaten)
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream or half and half
  • Egg Wash:
  • 1 large egg, slightly beaten
  • 1 tablespoon cream

How to Make

  • Step 1: In a large bowl whisk flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt.

  • Step 2: Cube the cold butter and put it in the flour bowl; with a pastry blender cut the butter into small coarse crumbs.

  • Step 3: In a small bowl mix the egg, vanilla, and cream, mixing well; add to flour mixture just till dough comes together; don't overmix.

  • Step 4: Put on lightly floured board and pat into a 7" circle; cut with circle cutter about 1" thick; place on ungreased baking sheet.

  • Step 5: In a small bowl mix the ingredients for the egg wash and brush on top of each shortcake and then bake in a 400 degree oven for 15-18 minutes or till a toothpick put in the center comes out clean.
