Step 1: Preheat oven to 400F.
Step 2: In a bowl, mix together flour, brown sugar and butter with a fork until crumbly. Measure out half this mixture and set aside.
Step 3: In a separate bowl, dissolve baking soda in hot water. Add molasses and egg, then stir in half the crumb mixture.
Step 4: Pour into unbaked pie crust and top with remaining crumb mixture.
Step 5: Bake for 10 minutes and then reduce oven to 325F. and continue baking for another 30 minutes.
Step 6: Cool and serve with whipped cream if desired.
