  • 3/4 cup honey
  • 3/4 cup light brown sugar
  • 1 1/2 cups rye flour
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 tablespoons baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon ground ginger
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon allspice
  • Salt (1 dash)
  • 2 cups milk
  • 3 tablespoons orange marmalade

How to Make

  • Step 1: Preheat oven to 350°F.

  • Step 2: Beat honey and sugar until mixture turns light.

  • Step 3: Sift together flours, baking soda, spices and salt.

  • Step 4: Mix into honey mixture alternately with milk, starting and ending with dry ingredients.

  • Step 5: Stir in marmalade and mix well.

  • Step 6: Pour batter into a large loaf pan.

  • Step 7: Bake for about 1 1/4 hours, or until a cake tester comes out clean.

  • Step 8: If the top browns too quickly, cover with foil.

  • Step 9: Cool wrapped in a towel.
