Ingredients

The ingredients are:
  • 2 1/4 teaspoons yeast
  • 1/2 cup lukewarm water
  • 2 cups sourdough starter
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/3 cup honey
  • 1/4 cup melted butter
  • 2 cups barley flour
  • 2 cups whole wheat flour
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour

How to Make

  • Step 1: Dissolve yeast in water.

  • Step 2: Add sourdough starter, salt, honey and butter.

  • Step 3: Stir until well-blended.

  • Step 4: Add flours and blend.

  • Step 5: Turn onto a lightly floured surface and knead for a couple of minutes.

  • Step 6: Place dough in a large buttered bowl, turning to coat all sides.

  • Step 7: Cover with a towel and let rise in a warm place for about 1 hour, or until doubled in bulk.

  • Step 8: Punch down and knead for a couple of minutes.

  • Step 9: Divide dough into 2 equal pieces.

  • Step 10: Shape each piece into a ball.

  • Step 11: Place on a lightly greased baking sheet, cover, and let rise until doubled, about 45 minutes.

  • Step 12: Preheat oven to 375°.

  • Step 13: Bake for about 30 minutes, or until loaves are browned and sound hollow when tapped with a finger.

  • Step 14: Cool wrapped in a towel.
