Ingredients

The ingredients are:
  • 1 packet (200 gram) cannelloni shells
  • 3 cups milk
  • 1 garlic clove (finely chopped)
  • 1/2 teaspoon pepper
  • 2/3 cup parmesan cheese, grated
  • 450 grams ground beef (minced beef)
  • 1 (8 ounce) yellow onion (finely chopped)
  • 1 large egg
  • 3 cups pasta sauce (tomato, onion and pasta sauce recommended)
  • 1 teaspoon basil
  • 1 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup butter
  • 1 tablespoon oil (vegetable oil)
  • 200 gram frozen spinach (thawed squeezed dry)

How to Make

  • Step 1: Preheat oven to 200C.

  • Step 2: To prepare cheese sauce, melt butter in saucepan and stir in flour and cook for 1 minute, gradually whisk in milk and add 1 teaspoon salt and pepper to taste.

  • Step 3: Cooking stirring until sauce comes to the boil and thickens and then stir in 1/3 cup of parmesan cheese.

  • Step 4: To prepare filling, heat oil in large saucepan, add garlic and onion and cook until soft.

  • Step 5: Add the minced beef and stir in spinach, egg, basil and 1/2 teaspoon each of salt and pepper.

  • Step 6: Add 1 cup of cheese sauce, mixing well.

  • Step 7: Spread 1 1/2 cups tomato sauce into a lightly greased baking dish.

  • Step 8: Fill cannelloni with beef mixture and place in a single layer in prepared dish.

  • Step 9: Cover with remaining cheese sauce and garnish with remaining tomato sauce.

  • Step 10: Sprinkle with remaining parmesan cheese

  • Step 11: Bake uncovered for 30 to 40 minutes or until sauce bubbles.
