Ingredients

The ingredients are:
  • 1 pound beef short ribs (venison here)
  • 2 quarts water
  • 2 whole (16 ounces) yellow onions (quartered)
  • 1 1/4 pounds tomatoes (3 ripe tomatoes, peeled and chopped in large chunks)
  • 1 (6 ounce) bell pepper (seeded and diced)
  • 2 whole (8 ounces) turnips (peeled and cubed)
  • 2 cups diced potatoes
  • 1 cup carrots, sliced
  • 4 ounces corn kernels (1/2 cup)
  • 1/4 cup celery, minced
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 teaspoons black pepper, to taste

How to Make

  • Step 1: Put meat in a large soup kettle and cover with water until it is about 1 inch higher than the meat.

  • Step 2: Cover and bring to a boil over high heat.( if cooking in crock pot , its going to take longer , add veggies half way through at about 3 hours

  • Step 3: Reduce heat and simmer for 2 1/2 hours.

  • Step 4: Remove meat, let cool. Discard bones, returning meat to pot.

  • Step 5: Put in all vegetables, cover and simmer for 1 1/2 hours.

  • Step 6: Season to taste with salt and pepper.
