Ingredients

The ingredients are:
  • 1/2 cup shortening (use Crisco white shortening, room temperature)
  • 1/2 cup butter, softened (salted or unsalted can be used -- or can use 1/2 cup margarine, softened)
  • 4 to 6 tablespoons whipping cream (or 18% table cream)
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt (heaping 1/4 Tsp)
  • 1/2 teaspoon almond extract
  • 2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract (or 1 teaspoon almond extract)
  • 5 cups confectioners' sugar (or as needed, sift the sugar before using)
  • 2 to 4 drops food coloring (OPTIONAL -- OR for flavor and color, use 2 envelopes 3-grams each, Duncan Hines Frosting Creations)

How to Make

  • Step 1: In a large bowl using an electric mixer at medium speed cream the butter or margarine with shortening, salt and vanilla until fluffy.

  • Step 2: Add in sifted confectioners sugar and 4 tablespoons whipping cream; beat until combined and smooth making certain to beat for at least 3-5 minutes on medium speed, adding in more cream or milk to create desired consistancy.

  • Step 3: Beat in desired amount of food coloring -- or Frosting Creations, starting with one package and add the other one if needed or desired.
