Step 1: Cut tomatoes into half and place in a bowl with onion.
Step 2: Whisk together the oil and vinegar and pour over the tomatoes.
Step 3: Add the salt and pepper to taste and toss salad.
Step 4: Cover and leave about an hour at room temperature, tossing salad occasionally.
Step 5: Just before serving add the basil leaves and toss salad again.
Step 6: Salad is best served at room temperature.
