  • 1 bunch celery (large bunch, chopped)
  • 1 yellow onion (chopped)
  • 1 can (8 ounce) mushrooms (drained)
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 cup cold water
  • 3 tablespoons cornstarch
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon granulated sugar
  • 1 beef bouillon cube
  • 1 teaspoon molasses
  • 1 can (8 ounce) water chestnuts (drained)

  • 1 bag (8 ounce) dry chow mein noodles (heated for serving)
We recommend you get your ingredients ready before you start cooking. Once you're ready, here are the steps to making this delicious recipe

How to Make

  • Step 1: Brown meat. Add celery, onion, mushrooms; saute. Add 1 cup water, cook covered 15 minutes, stirring occasionally.

  • Step 2: In a separate cup, mix 1 cup cold water with cornstarch, soy sauce, sugar, bouillon cube and molasses; stir, then add to meat and vegetable mixture. Cook uncovered, stirring until thickened (I would add cornstarch at last so doesn't break).

  • Step 3: Add water chestnuts then chop suey vegetables. Simmer approximately 20 minutes uncovered.

  • Step 4: Serve with rice and crisp chinese noodles.
