Step 1: Mix raisins, butter, brown sugar, spices, and water in heavy saucepan.
Step 2: Place on high heat and bring to a boil.
Step 3: Lower heat and simmer for 6 minutes.
Step 4: Remove from heat and turn raisin mixture into a large bowl.
Step 5: Let stand at room temperature for 30 minutes.
Step 6: Meanwhile, combine flour, salt, and baking soda and mix gently.
Step 7: Add orange juice, vanilla and dry ingredients to cooled raisin mixture and beat well.
Step 8: Turn batter into a well greased 10“ x 4” x 3” loaf pan.
Step 9: Bake at 350 degrees Fahrenheit for 1 hour.
Step 10: Allow cake to cool in pan for 10 minutes.
Step 11: Remove from loaf pan and allow to cool completely on wire rack.
Step 12: Let cake ripen for at least one day before slicing.
