Ingredients

The ingredients are:
  • 1 cup butter
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 4 large eggs (separated)
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup almond nuts (blanched & finely ground)
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour (sifted)
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 cup strawberry jam
  • 1 cup heavy cream (whipped & sweetened to taste)

How to Make

  • Step 1: Set oven temp at 350F.

  • Step 2: Cream butter & gradually add sugar. Beat in egg yolks (1 at a time), beating well after ea addition. Stir in vanilla & almonds.

  • Step 3: Sift together the flour plus baking powder & gradually add to batter. Beat egg whites until stiff (but not dry) & fold into batter.

  • Step 4: Bake in three 8-inch buttered & floured layer pans for about 30 min or until golden brown. Cool at least 10 min before removing from pans & then allow to fully cool.

  • Step 5: Spread strawberry jam between cooled layers. Cover top & sides w/swirls of whipped cream. Serve immediately & watch it disappear.
