Ingredients

The ingredients are:
  • 15 ounces cooked garbanzo beans (or chickpeas, drained; skins removed, if desired)
  • 1 avocado (ripe, large)
  • Dash garlic powder
  • 2 tablespoons minced green onion
  • 1 lime (juice from 1 lime)
  • 1/4 cup chopped fresh cilantro
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • Bread of your choice (toasted, or not)
  • Garnish
  • Spinach leaves
  • Lettuce
  • Tomato slices
  • Sprouts
  • Crumbled bacon, etc., if desired

How to Make

  • Step 1: Rinse and drain the chickpeas. Place on a paper towel and remove the outer skins.

  • Step 2: In a medium bowl, using a fork or potato masher smash the chickpeas and avocado together.

  • Step 3: Add in garlic powder, green onion, lime juice, and chopped cilantro.

  • Step 4: Season with salt and pepper, to taste.

  • Step 5: Spread on toasted bread and top with your favorite sandwich toppings.

  • Note: this sandwich spread is best eaten the day it's made because the avocado will turn brown
