Ingredients

The ingredients are:
  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cloves
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup raisins
  • 1 cup gumdrops
  • 1 cup dates
  • 1/2 cup nuts
  • 2 cups shortening
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 4 large eggs
  • 2 cups applesauce
  • 2 teaspoons baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

How to Make

  • Step 1: Cream shortening and sugar. Add eggs; beat.

  • Step 2: Add applesauce with soda and vanilla.

  • Step 3: Mix in spices and flour in another bowl.

  • Step 4: Cut dates chop nuts take out black gumdrop. Add these to flour mixture as well as raisins; mix well. Add to creamed mixture.

  • Step 5: Pour into well greased loaf pans.

  • Step 6: Bake at 300 degrees for 2 hours. (Darlene's recipe says 45 to 60 minutes fin 350 degree oven, I would go with lower heat).
