Ingredients

The ingredients are:
  • 2 1/3 cups Bisquick Baking Mix (or any basic baking mix)
  • 1/4 cup whole milk
  • 1/2 cup applesauce (plain, not chunky)
  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar (more or less to taste)
  • 3 tablespoons melted butter
  • Pinch of salt
  • Optional
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 cup dried cranberries (or other dried fruit)
We recommend you get your ingredients ready before you start cooking. Once you're ready, here are the steps to making this delicious recipe

How to Make

  • Step 1: Mix ... Add the applesauce, milk sugar, butter, to a bowl; and, mix to combine. Slowly stir in the baking mix until you get a fairly smooth consistency. Don't worry about getting all the lumps out; you don't want to over mix. Taste the batter ... if you like your batter a bit sweeter, add a bit more sugar. It really depends on what type of applesauce you use. You can also add a bit of cinnamon; or, if you don't plan to serve it with a fruit compote - you can add dried fruit. Cranberries are my favorite, but dried cherries are very good as well.

  • Step 2: Bake ... Drop large spoonfuls of the mix to a baking sheet lined with parchment paper, you can also use a non-stick spray. Bake on the middle shelf, in a 425 degree oven; for 10-15 minutes until golden brown. This makes about 6 biscuits.

  • Step 3: Serve and ENJOY! ... Cool, slice in half; and, serve with fresh fruit, ice cream, or a dollop of whipped cream. I like my 'Caramelized Spiced Apples,' but, any fruit topping would be delicious. You can also serve warm - it is delicious topped with a caramel ice cream. It is just a nice twist on the classic shortcake. http://www.recipezazz.com/recipe/mascerated-strawberries-with-pomegranates-apples-and-pears-16089, this is also a nice topping for this shortcake.
