  • 1 cup butter
  • 4 ounces unsweetened chocolate (four 1-ounce squares)
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 2 cups chopped nuts (optional)
  • 1 cup mini chocolate chips (optional)

How to Make

  • Step 1: Preheat oven to 350 degrees and grease a 9 x 13 pan, preferably either pyrex or a shiny metal pan, definitely not a dark pan. This batter is made by hand, not in a mixer.

  • Step 2: In microwave, melt butter and chocolate, stirring occasionally.

  • Step 3: Stir in sugar and cool slightly. Whisk in eggs, then add remaining ingredients (except nuts and chips) and stir no more than 12 strokes.

  • Step 4: Gently stir in nuts and chocolate chips if using, being careful to not over mix.

  • Step 5: Bake for 25-35 minutes, depending on pan used and your oven. Pyrex will cook faster than a metal pan.

  • Step 6: Serve warm with ice cream, yum!
