Step 1: Preheat oven to 350 degrees, grease and flour pan(s), preferably shiny pans - not dark.
Step 2: Cream shortening and sugar, beat in eggs, then sour cream and vanilla.
Step 3: Whisk together flour, soda and salt, mix into creamed mixture.
Step 4: In microwave, melt chocolate with hot water, then add to creamed mixture.
Step 5: Bake 25-30 minutes for 8" cake pans, 30-35 minutes for a 9x13 and 35-40 for a bundt cake. Test for doneness with a toothpick.
