Ingredients

The ingredients are:
  • 2 liters wine (two 1-litre bottles port or other sweet wine)
  • 3 cups water
  • 2/3 cup maple syrup (real butter)
  • 5 tablespoons butter (ten 1/2-tablespoons or enough for one pat of butter for each mug)
  • 8 cinnamon sticks

How to Make

  • Step 1: Mix together wine and water in a saucepan.

  • Step 2: Heat over a very low flame (or electric element), and DO NOT ALLOW TO BOIL.

  • Step 3: Remove from heat and stir until syrup is dissolved.

  • Step 4: Pour into mugs, and top each with a pat of butter.

  • Step 5: Supply cinnamon sticks to be used as stirrers.

  • Step 6: Makes 2 quarts; recipe can be halved or doubled.
