Step 1: Beat cream cheese with cream.
Step 2: Gradually beat in sugar, then blend in chocolate.
Step 3: Stir in vanilla and rum or almond extract, salt and (if using) 1 cup nuts.
Step 4: Press into lightly greased 8-inch square pan and cover top with remaining nuts (or can top each square with one pecan half).
Step 5: Mark in 64 1-inch square pieces and chill.
