Step 1: Combine the flour, sugar, baking powder and salt (sift them together if not using pre-sifted flour).
Step 2: Add the cranberries, grated rind, shortening, egg, milk and orange juice.
Step 3: Mix well, but not too long.
Step 4: Bake in a greased 2-lb loaf pan for about 1 hour in a preheated 350°F oven, until a fork inserted comes out clean.
