Ingredients

The ingredients are:
  • 1 pound green string beans
  • 1 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 1 tablespoon bacon grease
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • Optional
  • 2 slices bacon, chopped (Mom didn't include)

How to Make

  • Step 1: Wash beans and snap into 1 1/2" pieces, discarding ends. Barely cover with water, add salt and bacon grease.

  • Step 2: Cover and bring to a boil, reduce heat to simmer and cook about an hour. Pour off water and add butter. Let sit with lid back on for about a minute, to melt butter, then toss gently and serve.

  • Step 3: Optional bacon, you can either add up front or cook separately and add at the end.
