The ingredients are:
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup shortening
  • 3 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 large egg
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 cup buttermilk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • FILLING
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 cup raisins, ground
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup chopped nutmeats

How to Make

  • Step 1: Cook filling: Place the 1/2 cup sugar and 1 cup ground raisins in food processor. In the saucepan add raisins, cornstarch, 1/2 cup water and salt.

  • Step 2: When cooked and thick, add nuts.

  • Step 3: To make dough, combine rest of ingredients to a soft dough. Roll out thin.

  • Step 4: Cut with cookie cutter.

  • Step 5: Put teaspoon of filling on one cookie and then top with another cookie. Pinch edges together.

  • Step 6: Bake in moderate oven at 350 degrees Fahrenheit for about 10 minutes or until.
