Ingredients

The ingredients are:
  • 1 tablespoon oil (vegetable oil)
  • 1 yellow onion, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon each dried oregano and ground cumin
  • 1/2 teaspoon each ground allspice
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon pepper
  • 2/3 cup ketchup
  • 2 tablespoons minced chipotle chillies (in adobo sauce, canned)
  • 3 large eggs
  • 1/2 cup fresh bread crumbs
  • 1/2 cup green onions, chopped
  • 1/2 cup plain yogurt (Balkan-style)
  • 2 pounds ground beef (medium)

How to Make

  • Step 1: In a large skillet, heat oil over medium heat; cook onion, stirring occasionally, until softened and golden, about 4 mins.

  • Step 2: Stir in garlic, oregano, cumin, allspice, salt and pepper, cook for 1 minute, transfer to plate; let cool.

  • Step 3: Stir in ketchup with chipotle chillies; set aside.

  • Step 4: In a large bowl, whisk eggs; mix in bread crumbs, green onions, yogurt, beef, onion mixture and all but 1/4 cup of ketchup mixture until combined. Form into three 7 inch long logs.

  • Step 5: Bake on parchment paper-lined baking sheet in a 375 degree Fahrenheit oven until digital thermometer inserted in centre reads 160, about 25 mins. Spoon remaining ketchup mixture over top.
