  • 1 large egg
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/8 teaspoon pepper

How to Make

  • Step 1: Wash and trim the okra, then slice it into 1/2-inch pieces or just a little larger.

  • Step 2: Heat the vegetable oil in a deep fryer or skillet to 350 degrees.

  • Step 3: In one bowl whisk the egg, then whisk in the buttermilk.

  • Step 4: In another bowl, mix the flour with salt and pepper.

  • Step 5: Dip the okra pieces in the buttermilk wash, then in the flour.

  • Step 6: Deep-fry the okra until it is golden brown, about 3 minutes.

  • Step 7: Lift the okra from the oil with a slotted spoon. Drain on paper towels and serve immediately.
