Step 1: Cover the vegetables with water and ice chips and weigh them down, with a plate on top, so everything is under water for 3 hours. Drain.
Step 2: Mix the last 7 ingredients for the syrup. Heat the syrup.
Step 3: Add the heated syrup to the drained vegetables.
Step 4: Pour into hot sterilized jars. Seal.
Step 5: Water bath for 30 minutes.
