Ingredients

The ingredients are:
  • 2/3 cup dry bread crumbs (if free forming,you might need a bit more)
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 1/2 pounds ground beef (chuck)
  • 2 large eggs (well beaten)
  • 1/3 cup yellow onion, finely chopped(I upped the onion to 1/2 cup)
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried sage
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • TOPPING
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup ketchup
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1 teaspoon ground mustard

How to Make

  • Step 1: Soak bread crumbs in milk.

  • Step 2: Add beaten eggs, seasonings, onion (process in food processor to puree for picky eaters).

  • Step 3: Mix together well.

  • Step 4: With hands, gently add ground chuck and mix together lightly(The more you handle the ground beef during the making of meat loaf the tougher it becomes).

  • Step 5: Place in a 9 by 5 inch loaf pan sprayed with PAM.

  • Step 6: Bake in 350º oven 45-50 minutes.

  • Step 7: Prepare topping in small bowl.

  • Step 8: Pour over meat loaf during last 15 minutes of baking time.
