Ingredients

The ingredients are:
  • 3/4 cup dark brown sugar (firmly packed)
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar (if you like it sweeter use more)
  • 1 1/4 cups butter (room temperature)
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract (I used 1 tablespoon)
  • 1 1/2 cups all purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon (I increased to 2 teaspoons)
  • 1/4 teaspoons ground nutmeg
  • 3 cups oats (quick oats, uncooked)
  • 1/2 cup mini chocolate chips (optional or 3/4 cup raisins)
  • Granulated sugar (for coating the dough balls - optional)

How to Make

  • Step 1: Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Set oven rack to second-lowest position.

  • Step 2: Beat together butter and both sugars until light and fluffy. Beat in egg and vanilla. Combine flour, baking soda, salt and spices; add to butter mixture, mixing well. Stir in oats.

  • Step 3: Place rounded tablespoonfuls of cookie dough onto light greased cookie sheet, then coat the balls in granulated sugar.

  • Step 4: Bake 8 to 9 minutes for a chewy cookie, 10 to 11 minutes for a crisp cookie. Cool 1 minute on cookie sheet; remove to wire cooling rack. Store in tightly covered container.
