Step 1: Dissolve sugar in water in a small saucepan over medium-high heat. Add cinnamon sticks. Reduce heat to low, simmer for 10 minutes. Let cool, then strain out cinnamon sticks.
Step 2: Place blood orange juice, rum, lime, and cinnamon simple syrup in a cocktail shaker. Fill with ice and shake well for 20 seconds or until ice crystals form.
Step 3: Strain into a cocktail glass, garnish with a slice of blood orange and serve.
