Ingredients

The ingredients are:
  • 1/2 cup dry basmati rice
  • 5 cups whole milk
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cardamon
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted pistachio nuts (shelled)
  • 1/4 cup raisins
  • Pinch salt.

How to Make

  • Step 1: Rinse the rice by filling a bowl with cold water, swirling and draining- do this 7 or more times-until the water is clear. Place the rice in cold water and let soak for 30 minutes.

  • Step 2: In the meantime, place the milk in a pot and over medium heat, bring to a boil, stirring often- drain the rice well and add to the pot.

  • Step 3: Bring to a boil again and cook for approx 20 minutes, stirring very often.

  • Step 4: Add the sugar,pinch salt, raisins and cardamon. Let cook for another 10 minutes , stirring often, or until the rice is cooked through.

  • Step 5: Place into a heat-proof bowl(pyrex) and let cool.

  • Step 6: Chill- serve with pistachios on top.
