Ingredients

The ingredients are:
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup unsweetened baking cocoa
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons baking soda
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 3/4 to 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 3/4 cup light mayonnaise (Hellman's/Best Food)
  • 1 cup water
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla
  • 1/2 cup mini chocolate baking chips (optional)

How to Make

  • Step 1: Sift the flour, cocoa, soda and salt together. (I suggest not using a regular sifter as the cocoa does not come out well, use a strainer instead)

  • Step 2: In a bowl, cream the sugar, mayonnaise, water and vanilla together. Add dry ingredients to the creamed mixture and stir.

  • Step 3: Pour batter into greased and floured 9 x 13 inch pan.

  • Step 4: Bake at 350°F. for about 25-30 minutes.

  • Step 5: When serving cut into 12 pieces. Since it is very rich a smaller piece satisfies.

  • Step 6: Keep it covered tightly to retain its moistness. We eat it plain but you can
