Step 1: In a large bowl beat the butter and confectioners' sugar until light and fluffy. Gradually add flour and cornstarch, beating until well blended.
Step 2: With hands lightly dusted with additional cornstarch, roll dough into 1-inch round balls.
Step 3: Place balls onto an ungreased baking sheets spacing 1-inch apart. Press lightly with a floured fork. Top each dough with a cherry halve.
Step 4: Bake at 300° for 20-22 minutes or until bottoms are lightly browned.
Step 5: Cool for 5 minutes before removing from pans to wire racks.
