Step 1: Combine sugar, cinnamon sticks, 3 lemon slices, and water in a stainless-steel stockpot. Bring to a boil and cook about 5 minutes.
Step 2: Strain the sugar syrup into a bowl and set aside. Discard cinnamon sticks and lemon slices.
Step 3: Add remaining ingredients (except lemon slices) to the same pot and bring to a simmer over medium heat. DO NOT BOIL.
Step 4: Add the sugar syrup and stir.
Step 5: Serve hot in mugs, garnished with lemon slices.
