Ingredients

The ingredients are:
  • 3 tablespoons oil
  • 1 onion, red (diced finely)
  • 6 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 cup tomato sauce (use a good brand of tomato sauce)
  • 1/2 cup ketchup
  • 1/2 cup apple cider vinegar
  • 1/2 cup orange juice
  • 1/2 cup bourbon whiskey
  • 1 cup brown sugar (packed)
  • 1/2 cup honey
  • 1 tablespoon hot sauce
  • 2 tablespoons paprika (or smoked paprika)
  • 2 teaspoons dried oregano
  • 1 tablespoon fresh ginger root
  • 1 teaspoon freshly ground nutmeg
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • Ground black pepper

How to Make

  • Step 1: Heat 3 tbsp olive oil in a saucepan. Add onion. Cook until the onion have softened stirring occasionally. Add minced garlic and cook 2 minutes.

  • Step 2: Add in all remaining ingredients. Cook 1 1/2 hours. Stirring a few times while sauce is cooking.

  • Step 3: Cool the sauce.

  • Step 4: Puree the sauce in a food processor or with an immersion blender.

  • Step 5: Refrigerate 24 hours before you use it.

  • Step 6: Use with any meat or chicken.
