Ingredients

The ingredients are:
  • 2 pounds potatoes (peeled and sliced thin)
  • 2 yellow onions (jumbo onions)
  • 1/2 pound bacon slices (cooked until crisp then chopped finely)
  • 3 tablespoons butter
  • 1 tablespoon all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup white wine
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 6 ounces cream cheese (3/4 of an 8 ounce package)
  • Salt and pepper
  • 1/8 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 2 tablespoons fresh chopped parsley
  • 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese

How to Make

  • Step 1: Preheat your oven to 375°F

  • Step 2: In a large saucepan heat the butter, then add in onions. Cook until softened, 8 minutes.

  • Step 3: Stir in flour until combined.

  • Step 4: Add wine, milk, garlic powder and parsley, bring to a boil. Simmer until thick, stirring constantly.

  • Step 5: Stir in cream cheese until smooth.

  • Step 6: Mix in cooked bacon.

  • Step 7: Season mixture with salt, pepper and nutmeg (as much salt and pepper as you like).

  • Step 8: Add in sliced potatoes and let them cook for about 8 minutes, then reduce heat to low, let simmer for 5 minutes.

  • Step 9: Transfer everything in a large casserole dish.

  • Step 10: Top with shredded cheese.

  • Step 11: Bake for 30-35 minutes (check if potatoes are fork-tender but not to soft, the cooking time will vary, it will depend on how thick that you sliced the potatoes).
