Ingredients

The ingredients are:
  • 1 1/2 to 2 pounds ground beef
  • 2 tablespoons oil
  • 1 medium yellow onion, chopped
  • 1 green bell pepper, chopped
  • 1 can (19 ounce) tomatoes
  • 1 can (10 ounce) condensed tomato soup (or tomato sauce, we prefer the tomato soup, I go with 2 cans as we like the extra tomato flavor and creaminess)
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 to 1/2 teaspoon pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon granulated sugar
  • 1 1/2 cups shredded cheddar cheese (or cheese of choice)
  • 12 ounces dry pasta (your choice, original recipe calls for elbow macaroni, youngsters love bow ties)
  • 2 tablespoons butter, melted (or margarine - to coat pasta)
  • 3/4 cup breadcrumbs (for topping, I use the coarse crumbs)
  • 2 tablespoons butter, melted (or margarine for the bread crumb topping)
We recommend you get your ingredients ready before you start cooking. Once you're ready, here are the steps to making this delicious recipe

How to Make

  • Step 1: Prepare the crumb topping, in a skillet over medium heat melt the butter or margarine lightly brown the crumbs, set aside

  • Step 2: Prepare noodles, cook noodles according to package, drain coat with melted butter

  • Step 3: Prepare the ground beef, in a large skillet cook the beef, onions, and green pepper over medium heat until the meat is no longer pink then drain off excess oil

  • Step 4: Add tomatoes and tomato soup, blend in flour, add seasonings simmer five minutes(for variety or if wanting a spicier version you may add extra seasonings of your choice)

  • Step 5: Spray your favourite 2 quart casserole or a baking dish with cooking spray, start your layers with noodles alternating with the hamburger ending with noodles, add the shredded cheese and top with the bread crumbs

  • Step 6: Bake uncovered in a 325 degree oven for 25 or 30 minutes (Time varies from oven to oven).
