Step 1: Layer half of the bread cubes in a greased 9 X 13 casserole dish.
Step 2: Scatter the cream cheese cubes over the bread, then add the other half of the bread cubes on top.
Step 3: Combine eggs, milk, and syrup. Pour over the casserole.
Step 4: Cover and refrigerate overnight.
Step 5: In the morning,bring to room temperature, and sprinkle the nuts over the top of the casserole, lightly pressing them in with a spatula.
Step 6: Preheat oven to 350 degrees, and bake 30 to 45 minutes. Cut into squares and serve with maple syrup if desired.
